Choosing an attorney to defend you against DUI charges is one of the most important decisions you can make. Hiring an experienced attorney with a proven track record of success could mean the difference between saving your reputation, drivers license, and freedom or facing the serious consequences of a DUI conviction.
At the Barone Defense Firm, we have assembled some of the finest DUI defense attorneys in the state of Michigan. DUI defense is all we do. We devote all of our resources to fighting for our clients every step of the way.
We are not the least expensive firm. However, we are the most experienced and arguably the most passionate about getting great results for our clients. Because we want you to have a favorable outcome in your case, we have financing options available that make retaining our services more affordable.
Representation in OWI cases is both “standard” and “unique.” All drunk driving cases are similar in many ways. Individual facts and circumstances determine the best representation for each client. Because the Barone Defense Firm only handles OWI, DUI, DWI, OUIL and UBAL cases, our representation is designed with the client in mind. Not all clients want to take their cases to trial. Others have no other option than trial. These things are taken into consideration in setting fees.
We have also structured our fees so that they take into consideration the Michigan rules of professional ethics. These rules provide that a layer must be “competent” and that of course the fee must be “reasonable”.
In determining whether a lawyer is able to provide competent representation in a particular matter, relevant factors include the relative complexity and specialized nature of the matter, the lawyer’s general experience, the lawyer’s training and experience in the field in question, the preparation and study the lawyer is able to give the matter, and whether it is feasible to refer the matter to, or associate or consult with, a lawyer of established competence in the field in question.
Some of the specific factors to be considered in determining the reasonableness of a fee include the following:
Michigan’s rules of professional ethics state that an attorney must be competent, and that the legal fees must be reasonable. To determine whether an attorney is competent to provide representation, you must look at a number of relevant factors, including the complexity and specialized nature of the case, the attorney’s general and specialized experience and training, and the preparation that the attorney is able to give to the case.
In most cases, the required proficiency would be that of a general practitioner of law. However, because Michigan’s drunk-driving law is so complex, a great deal of experience is required to competently defend a client who is accused of drinking and driving.
We have a flat fee for each of our clients, and in many cases, people need a payment plan. So we’ll work with each individual client for a payment plan that works for them. It may be paid over a three-month period or, in some cases, a six-month period, but each client individually will be worked with financially for a payment plan that would work for them.
