***** PRESS RELEASE ******
Ryan T. Ramsayer Elevated to Partner at Barone Defense Firm: Marine Veteran and Legal Scholar Strengthens Michigan’s Premier Criminal Defense Team
The Barone Defense Firm is proud to announce that Senior Associate Ryan T. Ramsayer has been elevated to the position of Partner, effective immediately. This promotion reflects Mr. Ramsayer’s unwavering dedication, exceptional legal acumen, and steadfast commitment to defending the rights of Michigan’s citizens.
Mr. Ramsayer’s journey to partnership is distinguished by his honorable service in the United States Marine Corps infantry, where he served in Afghanistan. The discipline, leadership, and resilience he cultivated during his military tenure have seamlessly translated into his legal practice, enabling him to zealously advocate for clients across Michigan’s state and federal courts.
Since joining the Barone Defense Firm in 2010, Mr. Ramsayer has been instrumental in the successful defense of hundreds of clients facing charges such as drunk driving, drug possession and distribution, driving with a suspended license, and assault. His areas of expertise include DUI defense, license restoration, firearm law, and self-defense cases. Notably, he has achieved significant victories, including obtaining not guilty verdicts in complex DUI cases and securing dismissals in felony charges, thereby safeguarding his clients’ rights and futures.
In addition to his courtroom achievements, Mr. Ramsayer has made significant scholarly contributions to the legal community. He co-authored Chapter 13 on Traffic Offenses in the newly published “LexisNexis Michigan Criminal Law and Procedure with Forms,” focusing on various Operating While Intoxicated offenses, including those involving injury or death. Furthermore, he is the co-author of “Michigan Gun Law, Armed and Educated,” a comprehensive 480-page encyclopedia detailing Michigan’s firearm and self-defense laws. Demonstrating his commitment to education, Mr. Ramsayer travels throughout the state, delivering presentations on self-defense law to Michigan’s gun owners, thereby empowering citizens with critical legal knowledge.
Mr. Ramsayer’s academic credentials are equally impressive. A native of northern Minnesota, he earned his Bachelor of Arts in History from Bemidji State University. He then relocated to Michigan to pursue his legal education at Michigan State University College of Law, where he participated in the two-year Geoffrey Fieger Trial Practice Institute program, honing essential trial advocacy skills. His professional affiliations include membership in the National College for DUI Defense and the Michigan Association of OWI Attorneys. He is also a certified practitioner of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, underscoring his comprehensive understanding of DUI defense.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Mr. Ramsayer is a devoted family man, cherishing time with his two young daughters. Despite his relocation to Michigan, he remains a lifelong Viking’s fan, a testament to his roots in northern Minnesota.
Mr. Ramsayer’s promotion to Partner is a significant milestone for the Barone Defense Firm. He joins Founding Partner Patrick Barone, Senior Partner Mike Boyle, and Associate Attorney Ryan Ballard in leading the firm toward continued excellence in criminal defense. His collaboration with Keith Corbett, who serves as Of Counsel to the firm, further enhances the firm’s capacity to provide top-tier legal representation.
Reflecting on his career, Mr. Ramsayer states, “Since my acceptance to the Michigan Bar Association in 2009, I have been defending the accused as a member of the Barone Defense Firm. In my time with the firm, I have represented hundreds of clients, filed countless motions, conducted extensive trials, and won impressive victories. It is my goal to provide my clients the type of representation I would want if placed in their shoes. It is a point of pride to not only be knowledgeable but available.”
The Barone Defense Firm is confident that Mr. Ramsayer’s leadership and dedication will continue to advance the firm’s mission of “helping people win back their lives.” His promotion underscores the firm’s commitment to excellence, integrity, and unwavering advocacy for those it serves.
