Of Counsel Barone Defense Firm attorney Keith Corbett was recently featured on a newscast regarding the ongoing water crisis in Flint.

Interviewed by a reporter from Detroit's Local 4 News, Mr. Corbett spoke about the multi-agency federal investigation that is now underway.

"It is a way of bringing to bear different investigative resources and different agencies so they have more people working on the case without tying up the manpower attributable to one specific agency," Mr. Corbett said.

The investigation is being spearheaded by the U.S. Attorney's office and involves a team of members from the FBI, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Inspector General and the EPA's Criminal Investigation Division.

"If they're putting in the manpower and resources to investigate it, they have some reason to believe there is a potential violation," Mr. Corbett said.

Mr. Corbett explained that the involvement of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service indicates that fraudulent e-mails or letters could have been used to cover up known violations.

"If it can be determined that there is an underlying scheme or artifice, a perfectly legitimate mailing designed to further that scheme could, in fact, be a violation," he said. "Each and every mailing is a separate offense."

With over 30 years' experience as a federal prosecutor including time as the Chief of the Organized Crime and Racketeering Division at the U.S. Attorney's office, Mr. Corbett is well-qualified to speak on the federal investigation underway in Flint.
